Why this project matters
Beyond the Barracks is a multi-partner project led by York St John University, focused on improving outcomes for Service children in further education (FE) and supporting their progression into higher education.
As a project partner, the SCiP Alliance contributes specialist expertise to help develop evidence-informed approaches that strengthen support for Service children in post-16 settings.

- Build the evidence base on post-16 interventions
- Improve data and tracking of Service children's progression
What We're Doing
- Supporting the pilot of the post-16 Thriving Lives Toolkit
- Providing specialist guidance on research, practice and intervention design
- Supporting collaboration across project partners
- Providing expert guidance on evaluation and impact
- Sharing learning and encouraging uptake across the sector

How this supports our strategy
The project supports the SCiP Alliance’s 2022 – 2026 priorities to expand engagement across the sector (Community: Goal 3), extend the Thriving Lives Toolkit into post-16 education (Impact: Goal 7), and strengthen the evidence base on what works for Service children (Impact: Goal 8).
