HELPING ORGANISATIONS UNDERSTAND WHAT WORKS FOR SERVICE CHILDREN
Why this project matters
Organisations supporting Service children are under increasing pressure to demonstrate impact, learn from evidence, and make the best possible use of limited resources. Yet many lack the time, confidence or consistent approaches needed to evaluate their work effectively.
Evaluation for Impact is an 18-month project led by the SCiP Alliance Impact Centre. Working alongside organisations, partnerships, and programmes across the Service children’s sector, we’ll develop, test, and refine a practical evaluation support service that can be adapted to different contexts.
Together, we’ll create practical tools, resources and support that help organisations understand their impact, strengthen decision-making and embed robust evaluation and continuous improvement into everyday practice.
By strengthening how organisations understand and evidence their impact, we can help ensure that support for Service children and their families becomes increasingly effective, evidence-led and sustainable.
Timeline: 2026 – 2028
What we’re aiming to achieve
- Strengthen evaluation practice across organisations, partnerships and programmes
- Build confidence and capability in monitoring, evaluation and learning
- Help organisations use evidence more effectively in decision-making and service design
- Develop a consistent but flexible approach to evaluation that can be adapted to different contexts
- Improve return on investment through more effective targeting of resources.
What we’re doing
- Work alongside up to eight pilot settings across the Service children's sector to develop and refine evaluation approaches
- Develop a scalable evaluation framework and support model that can be used by organisations, partnerships and programmes
- Create freely available resources and guidance to support wider adoption of effective evaluation practice
- Identify and share examples of effective practice from participating organisations
- Strengthen the capacity of the SCiP Alliance Impact Centre to provide long-term evaluation support across the sector.
The difference this project will make
- Improved confidence and capability in evaluation across participating settings
- More consistent and rigorous approaches to measuring outcomes and impact
- Stronger feedback loops between delivery, learning and improvement
- Increased adoption of sustainable evaluation practice across the sector
- Better informed decision-making and improved return on investment
- Ultimately, more effective, evidence-led support for Service children and families.
How this supports our strategy
Evaluation for Impact directly supports the SCiP Alliance's commitment to improving impact, strengthening evidence-led practice and building sector capability. It will help expand the support available through the SCiP Alliance Impact Centre, enabling more organisations to understand their impact, improve their services and make informed decisions based on evidence.
