Why this research matters

A research report commissioned by the Service Children’s Progression Alliance and funded by six Uni Connect Partnerships provided the foundation for the Thriving Lives toolkit. The International Centre for Guidance Studies (iCeGS) at the University of Derby examined practice and needs in schools and the literature on Service children's education in 2019. This evidence base was used to develop a framework for schools to reflect on their practice and approach and plan activity to improve support for Service children.

In 2021, the SCiP Alliance commissioned iCeGS to develop the research across the UK and to conduct impact evaluation with schools using the toolkit.
