Scotland Hub

The SCiP Alliance Scotland Hub brings together practitioners, educators, researchers, and other professionals from across Scotland who are passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people from Armed Forces families.

The Hub provides a collaborative space to:

  • Share effective practice from schools, colleges, universities, and community organisations.

  • Explore the latest research on the experiences and needs of Service children in Scottish education.

  • Develop partnerships across sectors to support young people’s learning, wellbeing, and progression.

  • Shape local and national conversations, ensuring that the voices of Service children and the professionals supporting them are heard in policy and practice.

Whether you are working in education, the military community, local authorities, or third sector organisations, the Scotland Hub is a welcoming network for learning, sharing, and making a difference together.

Scotland Event

Previous Activity:

In September 2024, the Scotland Hub held a Development Event at Edinburgh Napier University, successfully bringing together around 30 stakeholders from across Scotland to advance support for children and young people from Armed Forces families. Co-chaired by Professor Gerri Matthews-Smith and Meg Thomas, the event featured powerful insights from young people themselves, as well as contributions from Education Scotland and Forces Children Scotland.

Practical workshops and lively discussions helped identify key priorities for the Hub’s future development, with learning shared from other SCiP Alliance Hubs. The event highlighted a strong commitment to collaborative action, and an action plan will now be developed to drive the Hub’s next steps. There was a clear sense of shared purpose and optimism as the group works together to improve outcomes for Armed Forces families across Scotland.
