Oxfordshire County Council Festival of Friends
This publication showcases the work undertaken by 20 schools and one early years setting in the third iteration of the Festival of Friends, this time based in Oxfordshire.
This publication highlights the work carried out by 20 schools and one early years setting during the third round of the Festival of Friends, delivered in Oxfordshire in 2022/2023. The project was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Armed Forces Education Trust, whose funding enabled every stage of this programme. We are also thankful to the Study Higher UniConnect partnership for their guidance throughout, and to the RAF Families Federation for contributing staff time and resources.
Over the course of the project, the Armed Services Pupil Champions (ASPCs) took part in six training sessions with Matt Blyton, School Improvement Officer, where they received targeted professional development and ongoing support. They subsequently led their own network meetings, sharing this learning and helping their school-based champions design projects aimed at strengthening provision for Service children. Each school’s improvement work was aligned with at least one of the seven principles of effective support outlined in the SCiP Alliance’s Thriving Lives Toolkit.
The project came together in a final celebration event at Oxford Brookes University in June, attended by representative Service children from all participating schools.
