Carolyn MacLeod MBE

National Education and Transitions Officer, Association of Directors of Education in Scotland

Carolyn is the National Education and Transitions Officer for Armed Forces families, children and young people. Her role sits within the framework of the Association of Directors of Education in Scotland (ADES) and is funded by the Scottish Government. An acknowledged subject matter expert, Carolyn champions policy enhancements and practical improvements considering the unique features affecting the learning journey of children and young people of armed forces families. She was awarded the MBE for services to armed forces families, children and young people. Carolyn founded and leads a national network of local authority lead officers for armed forces families, and a Headteachers Forum for educational leaders of schools and ELC settings. She ensures strategic oversight and a key point-of-contact, cascading information to educators and families via the award-winning www.ForcesChildrensEducation.org.uk, and promoting professional learning. Carolyn collaborates with partners to support the aims of ensuring the inclusion and equity of educational provision, continuous improvements in the learning experiences, and educational outcomes for these children and young people. Carolyn has worked in partnership with Graham Short MBE (ADES), and Professor Geri Matthew-Smith (Edinburgh Napier University) on Research Project funded by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust: Forces Children – Additional Learning Needs.
