Matt Blyton

Matt Blyton started his career in the late 1980s teaching in primary schools in Cambridgeshire and Singapore before spending 10 years in deputy head and headteacher roles in North Yorkshire, including at Leeming (RAF) Community Primary. He then undertook an educational consultancy role for the MOD’s Service Children’s Education, based in Cyprus and Germany, before joining North Yorkshire County Council’s school improvement service as an education adviser in 2008 in which he undertook a variety of roles until the end of 2021. Throughout these advisory years he has always been a strong advocate for Service children. As an independent consultant since January 2022, Matt has run a variety of successful Service children projects in six local authorities, as well as providing school improvement support to schools in the north. He is a member of the Service Children’s Progression (SCiP) Alliance’s Management Committee, as well as the longest-serving member of the voluntary Service Children in State Schools (SCISS) national executive committee (17 years).
