Professor Gerri Matthews-Smith PhD is Research Professor in the Business School at Edinburgh Napier University, where she serves as Founder and Director of the Centre for Military Research, Education and Public Engagement (CMREPE), Lead of the Scottish Armed Forces Evidence and Research (SAFE&R) Hub, and the University’s Research Lead for Military Studies. Her research and professional practice lie at the intersection of human and organisational development, management, and wellbeing, reflecting an interdisciplinary focus that spans the Business School and the School of Health and Social Care. Since its establishment in 2021, CMREPE has expanded under her leadership to host a growing doctoral community, including veteran researchers. Her publication record includes peer-reviewed journal articles, edited book chapters, and commissioned research evaluation reports. She contributes to academic publishing as a member of the Editorial Board of the European Journal of Training and Development, Associate Editor of the Journal of Veteran Studies, and as a peer reviewer for a range of international journals. Public engagement with her research has been reflected in media appearances, including interviews with Channel 4 Television, YouTube, national newspapers, and the Scottish Government’s veterans’ employment campaign. Professor Matthews-Smith has an extensive record of research income generation, exceeding £3 million across her career. Funding has been secured from the European Union (Erasmus+ CAREMAN and DOCMAN), the NHS, the Department of Health, Macmillan Cancer Support, and the Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland, among others. In the last two years alone, her leadership has attracted over £1 million in new research funding, consolidating her position as a leading scholar in interdisciplinary research at the nexus of management, wellbeing, and military studies.
