The Service Children Transition Project

This workshop presents an overview of a 2024/2025 research study involving 3 primary and 3 secondary schools across England which explored the experiences of Forces families and their schools during school moves. It introduces a conceptual model for effective transition - the RELAYS approach – and calls for greater pupil and parent involvement in record transfer. Particularly relevant to educators, the session will draw on the evidence from parents and school leaders, highlight gaps, and invite delegates to contribute their views on shaping the model ahead of a digital portfolio pilot in an area where urgent change is needed.
