Thriving Lives Toolkit Webinar: Principle 7 - Staff are well informed
- Organised by: SCiP Alliance
- Date: 18th June 2025 from 16:00 to 17:00
- Location:
Join us for an insightful and thought-provoking webinar exploring the experiences of children from Armed Forces families and the importance of school staff being well-informed.
We’ll be joined by Dr Anne Chappell and Dr Ellen McHugh, authors of the recent report ‘Grown Up’ Children from Armed Forces Families: Reflections on Experiences of Childhood and Education. Anne and Ellen will share key findings and recommendations from their research, highlighting the crucial role schools play in raising awareness and equipping staff to identify and respond to the unique challenges faced by Service children.
The session will also feature Emma Thompson (East Riding of Yorkshire Council), who will present a collaborative project developed with Nick Wood (York St. John University) and Beccy Dixon (Ebor Academy Trust). This initiative focuses on delivering training to education staff, aiming to deepen understanding of military culture and its impact on children’s educational experiences. The training addresses the challenges and potential disadvantages Service children may face and encourages educators to reflect on how they can strengthen support—particularly around attainment and wellbeing.
This webinar is ideal for anyone working in education who is committed to inclusive practice and supporting the needs of Armed Forces-connected pupils.
