Edith Moorhouse Primary School Case Study: Principle 1

This case study describes the clarity, as well as the distributed leadership, of Edith Moorhouse Primary’s approach to supporting its large number of Armed Forces families. Additional support for Service children is informed by an evidence base and analysed rigorously for its impact.

Cwmclydach Primary School Case Study: Principle 2

Cwmclydach Primary School is a community school that places a strong emphasis on working with its many partners to develop exciting futures for the children in its care. In recognition of their wellbeing support, the school was the first in their Local Authority to be awarded the ‘National Nurturing Schools Programme Award’. Cwmclydach feel that it is an honour to support the Armed Forces Community and recognise the value Service Personnel, both Regular and Reservists, Veterans and serving families, contribute to the school and country. This Case Study highlights how the school used Principle 2 to help evaluate its support for Armed Forces pupils.

Kings Academy Brune Park and Kings Academy Bay House Case Study: Principle 3

This case study – focusing on Principle 3, ‘Achievement is Maximised’ - describes how leaders at both secondary schools, and within the context of the MAT and wider work of the Gosport Community Hub, provide timely and effective support for Service children so they attend well, behave appropriately, engage positively with school life and, ultimately, make good progress in their academic studies so they achieve well. Overall, and generally, Service children achieve better than their non-Service peers.

The Wellington Academy Case Study: Principle 4

Support is provided for the whole Armed Forces family at times of transition, and the importance of an academy Service Pupil Premium Coordinator is emphasised in this case study. The potential negative impact of moving schools is understood by all staff, and tested procedures are in place and followed robustly to minimise this.

Baglan Primary School Case Study: Principle 5

This case study examines how school leaders at Baglan Primary School utilised the self-evaluation framework for Principle 5 to evaluate how children’s voices are heard, used in decision-making processes and the subsequent impact on school practices.

Raigmore Primary School Case Study: Principle 7

This case study highlights how the school used Principle 7 to help evaluate how they keep their staff well informed. By having a comprehensive professional development programme, Raigmore Primary ensures that staff are well-informed about Armed Forces matters which may affect their pupils.
