Yorkshire and the North East Hub
Established in January 2018, the North East and Yorkshire Hub was one of the first hubs to be launched. It is led by the Inspiring Choices Programme, an outreach partnership delivering impartial careers information, advice and guidance about further and higher education to young people from a military service background across York and North Yorkshire.
The hub meets virtually or in person once a term to provide a space in the region for those who are actively engaged or interested in working with or for young people from a military service background. The purpose of meetings is to:
- Share best practice
- Discuss challenges and possible resolutions
This collaborative approach brings together a diverse range of organisations, including higher education institutions, secondary schools, local authorities and charities. As a collective voice, partners work together to develop initiatives which will encourage positive outcomes for young people from a military service background, and to disseminate evidence of effective regional practice to influence future policy and funding.
How to get involved:

Inspiring Choices, a Higher Education Outreach Partnership, is part of the Office for Students' Uni Connect Programme. They have successfully delivered impactful projects for Service children living in York and North Yorkshire. These initiatives include the Military Service Children Project, Armed Forces Day for Children, and a Military Service Children Residential. In early 2024, East Riding Council launched CPD workshops to help educators understand the impacts of military culture on Service children. Delivered in collaboration with York St John University and Ebor Academy Trust, these sessions provided valuable insights and practical tools for supporting Service children in schools and colleges. With highly positive feedback, this initiative is a key step in improving educational support for Service children.
