Projects for progress

Turning evidence into meaningful change for Service children.

From research and resources to policy and practice, our projects help strengthen support for Service children. Each one is designed to create meaningful evidence-led change.

Project

Landscape of Evidence Needs for the Sector (LENS) Programme

The Landscape of Evidence Needs for the Sector (LENS) Programme is a UK-wide engagement and research programme led by the SCiP Alliance Impact Centre. Working alongside practitioners, researchers, policymakers and funders, we’re building a clearer understanding of how evidence is used across the Service children's sector, where the biggest evidence gaps exist and what support organisations need to strengthen evidence-informed practice.
Project

Evaluation for Impact

Evaluation for Impact is an 18-month project led by the SCiP Alliance Impact Centre and jointly funded by Greenwich Hospital and the Veteran's Foundation. Working alongside organisations, partnerships, and programmes across the Service children’s sector, we’ll develop, test, and refine a practical evaluation support service that can be adapted to different contexts.
Project

Establishing the SCiP Alliance Impact Centre

The development of the SCiP Alliance’s Impact Centre capacity creates two essential capacities for the sector. First, to provide evaluation support and training to the practitioners, funders, and policy makers who work to support Service children. Second, to conduct specific projects based on sector need to develop the evidence-base of what works.
Project

Beyond the Barracks

Beyond the Barracks is a multi-partner project led by York St John University, focused on improving outcomes for Service children in further education (FE) and supporting their progression into higher education. As a project partner, the SCiP Alliance contributes specialist expertise to help develop evidence-informed approaches that strengthen support for Service children in post-16 settings.
Project

Community Consultation

This project is generously supported by Greenwich Hospital, enabling the SCiP Alliance to strengthen community insight and understand the impact of its work across the sector.
Project

Thriving Lives Toolkit and Community Engagement

This project is generously supported by the Veterans' Foundation and the Armed Forces Education Trust, helping extend the reach and impact of the Thriving Lives Toolkit and the SCiP Alliance Hub Network across the UK.
Project

Thriving through childhood and beyond

Led by the Naval Children's Charity, in partnership with the SCiP Alliance, and generously funded by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust; this project is expanding the SCiP Alliance's Thriving Lives Toolkit into a comprehensive suite of evidence-based frameworks, helping education providers better understand and support Service children from early years through to higher education.
Project

Digital Transformation Programme

This programme is creating a more connected, accessible and sustainable SCiP Alliance digital experience that helps more people find the evidence, tools and support they need to improve outcomes for Service children.
Project

Wellington Academy Evaluation Project

A three-year project to evaluate the Service children support at Wellington Academy. The project is being funded by Wellington College and led by Wellington Academy. Research expertise is being delivered by Dr Michael Hall, Senior Lecturer, University of Winchester.
Project

Thriving Lives Toolkit: HE outreach training and accredited school CPD

The aim of this project was to equip Uni Connect teams across England to support schools to use the Thriving Lives Toolkit. The project was led by the Southern Universities Network (SUN) who designed and delivered a pilot training package.
Project

Post-16 Research-to-Practice Project

The aim of this project was to understand the 16-19 sector and experiences for young people from Armed Forces families at this age, to understand how the post-16 education sector can best support these young people to achieve their potential and to develop a framework to support practitioners.
Project

Post 16: Connecting Young Adult Service Children aged 16-19

Aim: To develop an online space (Connected Forces) for young people aged 16-19 from Armed Forces families, providing connection and a sense of belonging, particularly for young people who are in areas with few Service children and in schools and colleges with few targeted support mechanisms. To explore the value of near-to-peer sustained digital support for 16-19 year olds from Armed Forces families.
